It is 1978 and one of Britain`s most famous steam engines was restored At barrow, I was at Barrow Island School when myself and the whole school went to see the world famous Flying Scotsman being lifted to a lorry for Carnforth. The 140 ton engine arrived in Barrow in December 1977 and left five months later it was given a major overhaul in the boiler shop in the yard. A new boiler was fitted to the engine.
There are lots of pictures in our Gallery.
It is still seen today on steam specials, The Flying Scotsman has exceeded 100 mph on it`s runs between London and Edinburgh.
